An Insight into Differences Between Industrial Staffing Agencies and Temp Agencies

The need for industrial staffing services in Atlanta, GA is on the rise, and for a very good reason. With job opportunities opening up across the state, staffing agencies are on a full roll, hiring more and more employees each year. However, there has been some confusion among both employers and candidates because of existence of similar agencies, called as temp agencies. They also provide employment opportunities like industrial staffing agencies do, but the scope of employment is somewhat different for both these agency types. Today, we’ll be looking into the finer details of differences between an industrial staffing agency and temp agency.

1. Differences in Employment Type

The first and obvious difference between the two is the type of employment opportunities they offer. Temp agencies have it in the name: temporary. They offer temporary and short-term work, and often provide contractual work too, especially short term contract work. Temp agencies deal with all kinds of clients, but candidates should expect only short term jobs, often lasting less than a week, to fill a temporary position at a company or office or job site.
Industrial staffing agencies deal with long term employment opportunities. They may not be all permanent jobs, but they will offer long term contracts, especially in industrial sectors such as construction, engineering and so on. Non-industrial staffing agencies are the same, but they offer work in other domains such as IT, hospitals, management etc. Many staffing agencies deal with both long term and short term jobs too, often acting as temp agencies depending on type of jobs.

2. Differences in Quality of Employees

Because temp agencies need to fill up positions fast, and they are all short term temporary jobs, so they don’t care much about qualification. If a candidate is in the same line of work as job description requires, they will be hired immediately and will need to start work on the same day itself. Hiring in temp agencies is fast, hectic and immediate.
Staffing agencies deal mostly in long term opportunities, so they take their time finding the right candidates, and also follow all hiring protocols such as interviews and background check. They are also given some time off before they are required to report for their first day on job. Hiring in staffing agencies is streamlined, verified and at discretion of the employer.

3. Difference in Industries Served

Because temp agencies have short term jobs offers, they usually operate in small scale work projects that can be done in a few days or few weeks at most. For example, filling out for a sick employee, doing a temporary job for a few days until a permanent employee is hired etc. are included in the package.

Staffing agencies deal with large and extensive scale of work because they hire for long term contracts. The scale of work may not indicate how long it takes to complete the work, but it solely depends on the main employer. They generally deal with all kinds of long term, permanent work positions.
